When the pitting resistance equivalent value (PREN=[Cr]+3.3[Mo]+16[N]) of chromium-nickel austenitic stainless steel is ≥40%, it can be referred to as super austenitic stainless steel. Super austenitic stainless steel is mainly developed to address the deficiencies in pitting resistance, crevice corrosion resistance, and poor thermal stability of the original high molybdenum (>4%) chromium-nickel austenitic stainless steel under harsh corrosive conditions containing Cl-.
